Holiday Tree Lighting, Caroling & Memorial Luminaries - December 6

Holiday tree with lights spelling out "Jacky"
Join East Granby Parks and Recreation for the 14th Annual Jacky Welsh Holiday Tree Lighting, Caroling, and Memorial Luminary event on Friday, December 6, 2024, on the grounds of the town campus. *Rain Date: Saturday, 12/7*

At 6:00 pm, our tree lighting ceremony will begin behind the Town Hall. The Marquis of Granby and the East Granby High School Chorus will help get us in the spirit of the season by leading us in traditional holiday songs.

The annual tree lighting is in memory of Jacky Welsh, a young woman who lived in East Granby and loved seeing her community come together. Join us in taking time out of the hustle and bustle of the season to come together to remember, to celebrate, and to enjoy our wonderful community.

Toy Drive

This is a free town event, but we do ask that you consider bringing a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the CT State Police and EG Resident Troopers' "Stuff-a-Cruiser". All toys will be donated to a local domestic violence family shelter. Thank you for helping us fill the cruiser! Note: If you are unable to attend the event, but would still like to donate a toy, a collection bin will be in the entry way of the police station starting on November 18th.

Cookies & Cocoa
Immediately following the tree lighting ceremony, join us in the Senior/ Community Center for free cookies, hot cocoa, and holiday festivities.

Letters to Santa
Have you written your letter to Santa yet? East Granby Youth Services High School Youth Action Council will have a special North Pole mailbox at the event for any child who would like to send their letter to Santa. Supplies will also be available if your child has not had a chance to write their letter. Be sure they include their name and return address so Santa and his elves can write back to them!

Memorial Luminaries
For the third year in a row, we will be lighting up the town campus with luminaries purchased in memory of loved ones who have passed. Luminaries can be purchased online here. $5 per luminary or $20 for five. You will be given the opportunity to leave a message that will be transposed onto a luminary by our volunteers, and then then be placed around the Town Campus for the evening.

Luminaries can also be purchased in-person at the Town Hall First Selectwoman's Office during regular business hours.

Outside of regular business hours, luminaries will be available for purchase at the Town Hall on Saturday, November 30, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, and on Thursday, December 5, 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Please call Nicole (860) 413-3301 if these times do not work for you, as she may be able to stay later if needed.

Any profit made from the sale of luminaries will be donated to the Resident Troopers' Office to purchase items for their Stuff-a-Cruiser toy drive.
