Prepare for Spring Excellence: Building Strength, Endurance, and Resilience.
The Winter Conditioning Program with TotalRunnerAthletics and East Granby Parks & Recreation is designed to empower middle school athletes with a comprehensive approach to fitness and performance during the winter months. Running offers a multitude of benefits for student-athletes across various sports, not just cross-country and track & and field.
Includes bus transportation to East Granby Farms for in-town participants, an athlete welcome kit, and a healthy, after-school snack before practice. Parents are to pick up their child at the farms promptly at 4 pm. Practice sessions include both indoor and outdoor activities. Students should dress accordingly for outdoor activities. Space is limited and early registration is encouraged to ensure your child's spot.
Program Objectives:
This 4-week intramural program, meeting three days a week, focuses on preparing students for the upcoming spring sports season. While running remains a core element, the program emphasizes overall conditioning, strength building, flexibility, and injury resilience.
Maintain and Build Running Base: Implement structured running activities to maintain and enhance participants' running base, ensuring a seamless transition to the spring track season.
Strength and Conditioning: Incorporate strength training exercises tailored to middle school athletes, enhancing overall strength, stability, and injury resilience.
Flexibility and Mobility: Integrate flexibility and mobility drills to improve range of motion, reduce injury risk, and enhance overall athletic performance.
Endurance and Stamina: Engage in activities specifically designed to build endurance, stamina, and cardiovascular fitness, ensuring participants are well-prepared for the demands of their respective sports.
Injury Prevention: Educate athletes on injury prevention strategies, emphasizing proper form, pre/post-workout stretching techniques, and self-care practices to minimize the risk of injuries.
There will be two 4-week sessions, meeting Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Our weekly sessions will focus on running drills and technique refinement, age-appropriate strength training, flexibility and mobility exercises, cardiovascular and endurance workouts, team-building activities fostering camaraderie, and character development.
TotalRunnerAthletics places a strong emphasis on character development. Athletes will not only enhance their physical capabilities but also develop vital life skills, including good sportsmanship, perseverance, maintaining a positive attitude, setting, and achieving realistic goals, and understanding the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
