East Granby Parks & Recreation and TheTotalRunner will be offering a 8-week Intramural Cross Country program for students in Grades 6 - 8 (open to non-East Granby residents).

The program begins Monday, September 18, and runs through Friday, November 10, and runs 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) from 2:08 - 4:00 pm. There is no practice on Monday, 10/9; however, on Wednesday, 9/20, Monday, 9/25, and Wednesday, November 1 practice will run from 4:30 - 6:00 pm (no school days). On half days for the EG Public School system the program will run from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. (A detailed schedule will be given out at assessments).

New this year, all participants will need to participate in a running assessment being held on Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 5:00 - 6:30 pm, at East Granby Farms. At this time the participants will review the behavior contract for the program and will begin setting goals for the season with the instructor.

This intramural sports program aims to introduce the sport of cross country running to students who may be either new to running or who are looking to participate in Track & Field/ Cross Country during their High School years.

This program teaches the fundamentals of distance running. During this program, we will focus on developing cognitive, physical, and social skills as it relates to establishing a solid running foundation. This goal-oriented program will provide instruction on vital running concepts through practical demonstrations/clinics, and training activities.

We will work on developing proper running form, key strength training exercises, pre/post workout stretching techniques, proper nutrition, and self-care for athletes. Participants will also develop character skills, such as good sportsmanship, perseverance, keeping a positive attitude, setting, and achieving goals, and understanding the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Participation in competitive meets is encouraged but not required.

After school transportation will be provided from East Granby Middle School to East Granby Farms for EGMS students enrolled in the program. Families are responsible for pickup promptly at the end of each practice, at East Granby Farms (79 North Main Street).

Registration for this program is $224 and includes a club singlet, a water bottle, and a light after-school snack each day.

Please note:  This is a rain or shine program, we will run/train in the rain or snow. Thunder is the only exception.
