Runners 5K Challenge for Middle School Students:

Description:
TotalRunnerAthletics and East Granby Parks & Recreation are excited to offer middle school students a unique running club opportunity.  The Runners 5K Challenge is the perfect program for middle school students looking to take their running to the next level. 

This 10-week program is designed to prepare participants for cross-country running and track & field, this program begins with a 4-week intensive training period. Runners will learn advanced techniques, pacing strategies, and goal-setting skills to prepare for 5k race season (weeks 5-10). Participation in weekly 5k events will allow students to test their skills and compete in a friendly, supportive environment while preparing them for participation in Cross Country & Track & Field at the High School level.

Schedule:
Week 1 through 4: 5k training at East Granby Farms, Monday & Wednesday,  East Granby Middle School students will be transported to East Granby Farms upon dismissal. Homeschool and out of town students need to arrive by 2:30 pm to the Farms. Parent pickup of athletes is at 4pm.

Monday, September 8 - Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from dismissal - 4pm (No class on October 13, 2025) Class on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 will run immediately after early dismissal until 2:00pm.  The optional race schedule will be shared with those registered and links will be shared for families to register their child for those races they wish for them to attend (minimal additional registration fees).


Program cost: $375 per student, Families with two or more participants can receive a $25 discount for a second, and third child. Registration fee includes a custom training plan for their unique needs, a training log for recording their runs and other physical activity, a water bottle, and an after-school snack to fuel their run.

Financial assistance is available to those families in need. Please reach out to Alicia Van Neil with our Parks & Recreation Department for additional information.
 
Weekly Races:   Links and further information will be shared during the first week of the program.  You are encouraged to register your child early, registrations do close for races, quickly.  Do not wait to register until race day.

Uniforms: Runners who participate in the weekly race series will be required to wear a team uniform. Uniforms will include an option for tech shirt or race singlet and shorts. There will be optional items available to purchase in the team store as well. Families will receive details regarding uniforms/optional gear in their welcome packet and will need to be ordered by 9/6.
