Kid's Run the Nation Youth Running Program
The TotalRunner and the Road Runners' Club of America will feature a 8-week, Kid's Run the Nation program.
This program aims to introduce the sport of running to students in a way that promotes their physical, cognitive, and social needs. This community-based youth running program was developed to adhere to the guidelines created by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to increase physical activity among youth and provide children with 60 minutes a day of physical activity. Each week will focus on a different module in a way that makes running fun with short educational lessons, and various running activities and games.
The modules are outlined below:
Week 1: Concepts of Walking and Running
Week 2: Concepts of Warm-up, Pacing, Cool-down, and Stretching
Week 3: Running Physiology and Form
Week 4: Setting Goals
Week 5: Keeping a Running Journal
Week 6: Nutrition and Hydration for a Healthy Life
Week 7: Running Safely and Running Home
Week 8: Competitive Running History and Heroes, and Fun Runs
