Join us for our new format of Growing Healthy Kids!
Take the stress out of healthy eating for you and your child! We make healthy eating fun by learning how food grows, what young people our age around the world eat, and how we can prepare food to taste best to our personal liking. Learning is hands on, experimental, and highly interactive.
Each program will run monthly and will focus on a specific topic.
The series is taught by Nutritionist, Alicia Newton from Nourish My Soul. Occasionally we will have guests from our Jr Chef program to mentor this younger group and model a positive relationship with healthy food.
Growing Healthy Kids is open to all youth ages 6 - 10. Classes will take place at the East Granby Community Center on Wednesday, from 4:00pm - 5:30pm.
The cost for each session is $50 per student/$60 for non-residents per session.
Themes for the up-coming months:
February: Tasty Science Experiment! food can teach us so much about chemistry, what better way to learn that with something incredibly delicious to eat in the end!
March: Cooking Up a Story - Often our favorite stories include foods and foods always tell a story! We will read a short story together each week and create a recipe from that story.
April: Cooking As An Art - Art is full of color & texture... and in this case... Flavor! We will learn how to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary using our artistic senses. Just like other art forms, everyone has their own style and preference for expression. (no class Wednesday, April 13th)
May: Spring has Sprung! Each session has specific foods that are available, abundant, and purposeful. We will learn about seasonal eating and cook up some spring favorites.
